Fashion inventory management software

Fashion inventory management software that counts in size and color.

Generic inventory tools count units. Fashion runs on style, color and size, on goods that are still in production, and on stock that is promised to a wholesale book before it lands. Sync is clothing inventory management built for all three, across your own warehouse, your 3PL, or both.

Definition

What fashion inventory management software actually is

Fashion inventory management software is a stock control system that models a garment the way the industry does: a style, broken into colorways, broken again into a size run. One tee in three colors across five sizes is a single product to a merchandiser and fifteen sellable positions to a warehouse. Software that cannot hold both views at once pushes the difference into spreadsheets.

It also has to handle stock that does not exist yet. A wholesale brand sells a season before the goods ship, so the number that matters is not on-hand, it is available-to-sell against confirmed purchase orders with a landing date. And it has to reconcile positions held in more than one place, because most apparel brands run some combination of an owned warehouse, a 3PL and retailer-held stock.

Sync is a full apparel platform rather than a standalone stock tool, so inventory sits on the same record as the PLM, purchase orders, wholesale orders and EDI that move it.

The hard part

Why clothing inventory management breaks generic tools

Ask a general inventory system for Navy in a medium and it will usually answer, because someone created a SKU for it. Ask it which sizes are about to break the size curve on a 400-unit Nordstrom prebook and it has nothing to say, because it never modeled the curve in the first place. That gap is where the manual work lives: exported stock lists, a size-ratio tab, and a merchandiser reconciling them by hand every Monday.

The same gap shows up in production. Between the purchase order and the receipt, apparel inventory exists as work in progress at a factory, with a ship date that moves. Systems that only recognize stock at the point of receipt leave the sales team quoting from a number that is weeks stale.

And it shows up at markdown. Seasonal product has a shelf life measured in drops, not months. Deciding what to mark down needs sell-through by style, color and size against the original buy, not a flat quantity-on-hand report.

Sell the season, not just the shelf.

Wholesale brands commit stock months before it lands. Sync blends on-hand with confirmed inbound purchase orders so reps quote from a number that reflects what is actually coming, and B2B orders write against it in real time.

  • Available-to-sell across on-hand and inbound POs
  • Pre-season availability by delivery window
  • Size-curve-aware allocation against wholesale prebooks

Wherever the stock sits

Your warehouse, your 3PL, or both.

How a brand holds stock is a business decision, not a software constraint. Sync runs a native apparel WMS for brands that operate their own warehouse, and integrates with 3PLs with automated inventory reconciliation for brands that outsource. Plenty of brands run both at once.

  • Native WMS with handheld scanning and directed picking
  • 3PL integrations with automated inventory reconciliation
  • Multi-warehouse, multi-country, multi-currency positions
  • One available-to-sell number regardless of who holds the goods

FAQ

Fashion inventory management software, answered.

What is fashion inventory management software?

Fashion inventory management software is a stock control system built for the apparel product model: a style, broken into colorways, broken again into a size run. It tracks on-hand units in that matrix, blends them with inbound production so a wholesale team can sell forward, and reconciles positions across warehouses, 3PLs and channels. Sync provides this as part of a full apparel platform rather than a standalone tool.

How is clothing inventory management different from normal inventory management?

Three ways. Clothing is sold as a size curve rather than as independent units, so breaking the curve destroys more value than the unit count suggests. A large share of apparel stock is committed to wholesale prebooks before it exists, so available-to-sell has to include inbound production. And apparel is seasonal, so sell-through by style, color and size against the original buy matters more than a flat quantity-on-hand report.

Can I use Sync if my inventory is held at a 3PL?

Yes. Sync integrates with third-party logistics providers and reconciles their inventory positions automatically rather than just tracking the transactions sent to them. Sync also includes a native warehouse management system for brands that run their own facility, and many brands operate both models at once across different regions. Whether to use a 3PL is a business decision, not something the software should decide for you.

Does fashion inventory software handle work in progress?

It should. In Sync, inventory that has been ordered from a factory but not yet received is tracked as work in progress against the purchase order, with landed cost accumulating by style and color. That means the sales team quotes from a forward availability number rather than from stock that is already in the building.

How does Sync stop wholesale and DTC from overselling the same stock?

Both channels read from the same inventory position rather than from separate copies. Wholesale prebooks reserve stock against a delivery window, DTC and marketplace channels see what is left, and the system flags over-commitment at order entry rather than at ship. Orders placed in the B2B portal write straight to live availability.

What does fashion inventory management software cost?

Sync is priced per business based on users, modules and channels rather than a fixed list price. Inventory is not sold as a separate product: it is part of one subscription that also includes PLM, B2B, EDI, warehousing and accounting, so you are not stacking licenses per function.
