What apparel software actually means

“Apparel software” covers everything a fashion or footwear brand runs on: PLM for product development, ERP for the commercial spine, EDI for trading with major retailers, B2B for wholesale selling, plus warehousing and accounting. Most brands assemble this from three or four separate tools and spend real money making them talk. The alternative is one platform where every module reads the same style record.

The test of real apparel software is the matrix. One style in five colours and seven sizes is 35 SKUs sharing one BOM, one tech pack and one cost - and carrying independent inventory, per-market size runs and prepack structures. Generic tools model products as flat SKUs and handle the matrix through workarounds. Apparel software is built around it.

FAQ

Apparel software, answered.

What is apparel software?

Apparel software is business software built specifically for fashion and footwear brands - handling what generic tools can't: style, colour and size matrices, seasonal range planning, tech packs and BOMs, retailer EDI, prepacks, wholesale B2B ordering and apparel-specific inventory. A complete platform covers PLM, ERP, EDI and B2B on one data model.

How is apparel software different from generic ERP or inventory tools?

Generic tools model products as flat SKUs. Apparel is a matrix - one style in five colours and seven sizes is 35 SKUs sharing one BOM, one tech pack and one cost structure. Apparel software is built around that matrix natively: per-market size runs, prepacks alongside unit inventory, variant costing by colourway, and EDI documents that carry pack structures. Generic systems handle these through workarounds.

What should a complete apparel software platform include?

The full stack: PLM (style master, BOM, tech packs, critical path), ERP (purchasing, inventory, orders, accounting), built-in EDI for retailer trading, B2B eCommerce for wholesale buyers, warehouse management and reporting. Assemble it from separate tools with integrations - or run one platform where every module shares the same style record.

Who is Sync apparel software for?

Mid-market apparel and footwear brands - typically $2M to $200M - selling wholesale, D2C or both. Sync is used by 300+ brands including Vissla, Bad Birdie and Bond-Eye. Brands typically switch when they outgrow generic inventory tools, or when maintaining separate PLM, EDI and ERP systems costs more than replacing them.

Does Sync include EDI or do I need a separate provider?

EDI is built in. Orders arrive directly in Sync, ASNs and invoices flow out of it - no SPS Commerce, no TrueCommerce, no per-document metering. Pricing is a one-time setup per retailer map plus a volume-based base fee, typically 20%+ below middleware totals at equivalent volume. Our built-in EDI page covers the details.

How long does implementation take?

Sync implementations typically run 8 to 16 weeks depending on data migration scope, EDI trading partner count and warehouse complexity - weeks rather than the 6-12 month timelines common with generic enterprise ERP.
